I love M&S, but they're not the first people I think of in terms of handbags, let's say. I was milling about Marble Arch at the weekend, stocking up on its excellent coloured tights (they also have
these nice silver ones), when
this bag caught my eye. I'm such a snoot that, even as I was walking towards it, I was thinking "it's probably not leather" and "it'll be horrible close-up". Ha! Wrong on both counts. For some reason that I can't fathom, the picture doesn't quite do it justice - it has a slightly worn-in boho look in the flesh and it's all squishy, as if you'd cleverly had it for ages and it had accompanied you on adventures. Also, it is *the* most perfect shade of tan, that trickiest of colours (also comes in a more fashiony teal). Also, it has a lovely patina, like a conker. And lots of pockets and a pretty lining and long enough straps to sling over the bulkiest winter coat. AND IT'S £79. Seventy-nine quid!
So I bought it and have had it for two days. So far three people have stopped me in the street and asked me where it's from. Tragically, and irritatingly, this doesn't happen with bags I own that cost several times the price of this one.
